What is Peel Insights?

Peel Insights is a plug and play data analytics tool with strong retention and cohort analyses, making it a better solution for retention-oriented brands who want to understand who their best customers are, where they come from, what they buy, and how to get more of them.

Their tool makes it very easy to breakdown your Cost of Customer Acquisition to Lifetime Value analyses from Facebook and Google, and even influencer campaigns, referral campaigns, newsletters, etc.

You can create and track monthly, quarterly, or annual goals and even segment goals by product (or essentially by team or team members). So for example, you can make a goal of revenue from Facebook ads, revenue from Google Ads, revenue by product, number of orders (to clear out your inventory for example).

If you want a custom demo, they will plug in your store and walk you through your own data. 

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

What makes Peel Insights different than competitors?

Enterprise level business intelligence and data analytics tools require a ton of setup costs, you may even have to build your own data warehouse, hire a team of developers, and write code in SQL to get at your insights. With Peel, you install the tool, they pull in the data, and you can get straight to analyzing it. 

They have really easy segmentation functionality, designed to make it easy to look at top performers, bottom performers, etc., and without having to create any custom views or dashboards (which is always an option but their goal is to not bog you down creating the dashboards as much as possible).

They also can push key insights to Slack where your team can find the real insights and take action.

What metrics is Peel Insights going to improve for my Ecommerce store?

As a tool that monitors all of your analytics, it's kind of “all of them.” But most users of their tool are focused on retention and lifetime value, and they use Peel Insights to better understand their top performing customers, their top performing products, and how cohorts are changing over time.

They also work really well at improving your Cost of Acquisition to Lifetime Value ratio by making it easier to understand true lifetime value by channel, by region, etc. You can then turn that data into better marketing or advertising decisions.

And finally, they also help subscription businesses really understand their cost and retention numbers, which may change how you position your brand, what types of customers to go after, or simply the cost of goods sold within your subscription box.

Who has to manage Peel Insights and how long does it take to setup?

Depending on how big your store is, it will take between 4 and 24 hours to compile their first report, from the moment you install their Shopify app. But this is fully automated. You make the connection and they spit out the report.

From there, you’d likely check in on your analytics monthly, weekly, or if you’re a big nerd like me, maybe daily. See how you’re performing, look for glaring problems, adjust business and marketing strategies accordingly.

You’re going to check your email reports from them pretty frequently, and also the Slack notifications that Peel Insights sends out. Sometimes this is glorified data paralysis, just patting yourself on the back and mindless self indulgence. Other times, you actually will change your behavior based on the data. Focus on the real, actionable changes you can make. 

Is Peel Insights right for my store?

Starting stores don’t typically need better data insights.

As you grow and scale, you will want to maximize your efforts and spend and a tool like this will help with that.
